Library petitionSutton Coldfield Liberal Democrats have been working alongside residents to fight Birmingham Council's plan to close the pubic library in the heart of our town centre.

The future of Sutton Coldfield's main library, housed in the Red Rose Centre remains uncertain against a backdrop of financial mismanagement by Labour-led Birmingham Council and public spending cuts from Conservative central government. Local Lib Dem campaigner Jenny Wilkinson raised a petition against the closure which was presented to Birmingham Council and local Lib Dems, including Jenny Wilkinson, are among the founder members of the Library Lobby; a non-party-political community group which has spearheaded cross-party efforts to save the library. The group has been holding public meetings with residents and library users alongside working with officials and local interest groups.

Emergency funding from Sutton Coldfield Town Council has been secured, resulting in a stay of execution until 3 August. Jenny Wilkinson and the Lib Dems are continuing to work with others towards a long-term solution.
