Campaign to Save Sutton Library is taking off

October 22, 2016 5:34 PM

Library petitionSutton Coldfield Lib Dems' campaign to stop the closure of our main town library got a boost today when nearly 700 signatures on a petition to save the library were collected in Sutton town cente. Our street stall on the Parade attracted a lot of interest and most people were shocked and disappointed to learn of Birmingham Council's plan to axe the library to save money.

The petition activity, led by Sutton Trinity campaigner Jenny Wilkinson, was also supported today by Beverley Nielsen, the Lib Dem candidate to be Mayor of the West Midlands as well as local members.

Jenny said: "Although we are seeking supporters to save Sutton Coldfield Library from closure, we also welcome positive suggestions and contributions regarding what can be done to persuade the council of the library's value. How can we increase its use? How might the services it offers be expanded? What other activities could be held in the library? We will continue to collect signatures on the petition and urge people to object to the council during the consultation period. I would like to thank everyone who has signed already and look forward to gaining even more support."
