Ann thanks residents for saving Castle Pool

January 31, 2015 5:24 PM

Ann and Trevor Holtom at Castle PoolLiberal Democrat campaigner Ann Holtom has said 'thank you' to all the Tyburn Ward residents and users of Castle Pool who supported the fight to save the swimming pool from the threat of closure. Ann has welcomed the news that the pool will stay open thanks to the decision by the Boldmere and Kingsbury Swimming Clubs, together with the Pool User Group, to form a not-for-profit community charity which will now run the pool. The announcement about this, first made last year, has recently been formally confirmed by Birmingham Council.

Ann said: "Birmingham Council and the local Labour councillors all promised they would keep Castle Pool open as a council funded facility. But despite their pledges they withdrew the necessary funding. Local people and pool users deserve great praise for finding a way to keep this super facility going. During the campaign to save the pool I was pleased to help organise a petition, showing how strongly supported this vital community asset was and this was certainly a factor in putting pressure on councillors to create the asset transfer of Castle Pool to the Community Partnership."
