68 bus stop-press: Lib Dem councillor forces bus company to re-think

Some good news for Pype Hayes residents about their bus service, thanks to Cllr Ann Holtom

Local Lib Dem Councillor and Pype Hayes resident, Ann Holtom, has won an important concession from Centro over the scrapping of the 68 bus route. Working on behalf of local residents, Cllr Holtom confronted Centro and, during some tough negotiations, got them to alter the route of the 168 bus service so that it now runs through the Pype Hayes estate. One resident said "We would have liked the 68 to remain, but understand that cut backs have had to be made. Ann has done a great job in forcing the bus company to change the 168 service."

The 168's new and improved route to Erdington is now: Chester Road, Pype Hayes Road, Springthorpe Rd, Woodcote Rd, Erdington Six Ways and also Asda Minworth.

Despite this success, Cllr Holtom and the Lib Dem team are still fighting for the entire 68 bus route to be retained. The petition which has been raised to prevent the route closure and which contains hundreds of signatures from Pype Hayes residents will be presented by Cllr Holtom at the Birmingham City Council meeting to be held on Monday 7 September. Ann will also be pressing transport chiefs to explain why they decided to axe this popular and vital route without even consulting the residents.
