Roads, pavements and street lighting - good news for local residents

Amey are doing a survey to find the worst affected roads and have begun the repair programme, with some Tyburn Ward roads already being refurbished
Cllr Ann Holtom has been informing residents in Tyburn Ward how the Liberal Democrat partnership running Birmingham City Council is getting to grips with the appalling state of our roads and pavements and finally getting something done about it.
As a result of the multi-million pound 5 year contract with construction company Amey, signed by the Council, Amey are carrying out a survey of every road and pavement across Tyburn Ward and are using the information to prioritise their work. They will then begin work on the basis of 'worst roads first' and eventually this programme will see every road across Birmingham refurbished, repaired or re-laid to bring it up to the same standard. Amey will also be replacing all the old street lighting over the same period.
Residents of some local streets have already had the good news that work is to begin in their road.
That's not all. Cllr Holtom has told residents that after some tough negotiating, the partnership got Amey to agree to install dropped kerbs for anyone who wants them, at a substantial reduced price of an 80% discount. This will be done when pavement resurfacing works are being carried out. For those residents concerned that they will wake up one morning to find their road dug up, this won't happen. Every resident will be given plenty of notice and kept well informed as to when their road will be dealt with.
