Lib Dems supporters celebrate another win on 1 October

The Liberal Democrats have gained a seat from the Conservatives at Droitwich South West, on the Worcestershire local authority of Wychavon District Council - just down the M5 from Birmingham.

On 1 October, Lib Dem candidate, Stephanie Vale, gained the seat with a majority of 105 votes, increasing the party's share of the vote by 6.1%. The Tory share of the poll declined by 4.3%.

The night of 1 October also saw the Liberal Democrats gain two other seats in local council elections both in Norfolk, one from the Tories the other from Independent. In the Wroxham Ward of Broadlands District Council our 19 year old candidate increased the Liberal Democrat vote by a staggering 58%. Ben McGilvray is a history student. Sutton Coldfield Lib Dems are disappointed by Ben victory however, as it means that New Hall by-election candidate Robert Hardware won't be the youngest Lib Dem councillor if he wins on 22 October.

Overall this year so far the Liberal Democrats have made 15 net gains in local by-elections while the Tories have lost 18.
