Station for Castle Vale "definitely on the agenda"

April 3, 2008 5:20 PM

trainCllr Ann Holtom remains at the forefront of the Liberal Democrat campaign to bring rail links to Tyburn Ward for the benefit of local residents and to help create much needed jobs.

Ann's campaign now has the backing of the Birmingham Post & Mail. In the Mail on 18 October 2007 a Centro spokesman said, "We are working with Birmingham City Council on possible locations for stations in Castle Vale and Castle Bromwich. This is a long term plan but new stations are definitely on the agenda". On February 22, 2008 the Birmingham Mail reported that, "there are significant employment locations close to the proposed station sites which would widen travel to work opportunities for residents and encourage regeneration".

As reported here last month Ann has been involved in negotiations with Centro and the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive to look at the feasibility of bringing a

railway station to Castle Vale. Ann said "I am very pleased with the way this project is progressing. Both Centro and WMPTE are very positive about the proposal. The need has been established and the logistics make it viable."

In a letter to Cllr Ann Holtom, Chair of WMPTE Garry Clarke stated the development is "Clearly on the Cards" Ann Holtom went on "I am very pleased that my campaign for a station has the support of the City Council, CENTRO & the Passenger Transport Executive.
