Nick Clegg promises to fight hard for families and local communities in Birmingham

Tyburn Ward councillor, Ann Holtom, is backing new Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg as being the party leader most in touch with Britain and the one who will give real support to hard working local campaigners to put people first and fight hard to protect vital local services.

Nick Clegg recently gave an exclusive interview to Tyburn News, a newspaper delivered free to homes in Birches Green, Castle Vale, Erdington Hall and Pype Hayes.

In the interview Mr Clegg, who represents a seat in the city of Sheffield, said: "This is an exciting time to be Leader of the Liberal Democrats. The Labour Government is no longer trusted to deliver vital services like our NHS, or to take the real action needed to cut crime - and the Conservatives don't stand for anything any more. For more and more people across the country, the Liberal Democrats are providing a real alternative to Labour and Conservatives. I will support Britain's families so every child gets the best start in life, cut crime and get a fair deal for victims, and improve our NHS so it delivers the care people need."

This interview comes after Nick's earlier promise, in a speech given not long after being elected Lib Dem leader, to give a voice to the people of Birmingham who feel ignored by Westminster politicians.

Commenting on Nick Clegg's election, Paul Tilsley, Leader of the Lib Dem Council Group in Birmingham, said:"Nick Clegg is going to be a great leader. The time has come for a politician who will speak up for real people and local communities - like ours in Birmingham."
